Composition
To imagine, forge and create
An idea for a song can come from anywhere, there are no boundaries when it comes to the seed of a song. Songwriting is an expression of how you feel, it can be an extension of who you are. To me, it doesn’t matter what the genre or style of music that is being presented to me, as long as it has something to capture my attention and transports my mind away for a brief period or has some unique, original quality to it, I will always give it attention and take notice.
Creating is something we naturally have in us all. We love to build and compose, to improvise and forge the elements around us. Usually songwriting comes in certain forms and arrangements when looking into pop for example. But even the most simplest of forms has it’s own set of skilled, thought out tools to compose something that has melodic hooks, reoccurring motifs, groove and rhythm, dynamic variation and feel. A song has to capture the essence of what the compose is wanting to say using all of the tools discussed above. You can really feel the emotion in Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Andata” as the composition builds and transports you into his creation.
